I didn’t even know Pirates existed in this day and age until a couple of weeks ago.  Yes, call me naive… but that’s the truth.  Have you noticed that since the capture of an American ship off the coast of Somalia how the news is just full of stories about other ships that are being hijacked by pirates?  Hmmmm… where was the media before?

Recently, I have been in the mist of a flurry of conversation with folks who are concerned about using the word  “Pirate.” because of the NOW  negative conatation.  Hmmmm.  does that mean that all Pirate memorabilia comes off the shelves in respect to Captain Phillips who was held captive?  Does that mean there will no longer be Halloween costumes available this fall?   Does that mean the word “Pirate” is now politically incorrect?

This morning, as I rounded the corner by my house… I noticed this sign that made me chuckle.  I have passed this sign a hundred times but today it took on new relevance.

Stop the construction.  No Pirate Pizza Place allowed here!

Frankly… I don’t think Pirates are going anyplace… except those terrorists who pirate the high seas.   I say, “Cut’em down mate.”

In the meantime:  Why does a pirate’s phone go beep beep beep beep beep? (Because he left it off the hook.)  What’s a pirate’s favorite kind of cookie? (Ships Ahoy!)    Why does it take pirates so long to learn the alphabet?    (Because they can spend years at C!)

Oh.. Oh… I’ve just received at warning.   “I’ll have yer lights and liver if ye don’t rid yerself o’ the useless words. Me time’s precious!”

P.S.  Do you think they will take Pirates Of The Caribbean off the shelf?  Oh no…. what about Peter Pan?  Will this mean that the mere mention of  Captain Jack Sparrow or Captain Hook will raise eyebrows?  Hmmmmm… By hook or crook, the media will have a hayday with this one.
