Belated Easter Egg Hunt

Our belated Easter egg hunt was fun. Because my kids take their families to the “Other Laws” on Easter, we hold our Easter egg hunt a week later. I filled each egg with candy and a dime… which they all love. They sort out their candy and fill their pockets with the money. They look forward to the coins as much as they do the candy. It’s been a fun tradition.

I set up two Easter egg hunts. The front yard hosts the younger kids and the backyard hunt is for the older ones.

Here are the younger kids… all set to go.

We did let little Abram go first… up to the count of ten… otherwise, he would get trampled by the mob.  Glade is his body guard and his extra eyes.

This is Randall.  He’s found that these bushes and trees held many an egg.  Some eggs are  green… which become a bit of a challenge to find.

It’s the big kid”s turn now. Run fast… the race is on.

“Hey… what’s going on here.  Norah… no coaching.”

Gee… it’s nice to have a guide. I guess that’s part of the fun and excitement too.

We have a good old time. The best part of getting older is that your blessings and fun are multiplied…. a hundred fold.

P.S. I like Easter Egg hunts now days…. those plastic eggs sure beat having to boil and color 200 eggs. Some how… that much egg salad is not very appealing to me.

Easter Almond M & M’s Taste The Best

Did you know that Easter Almond M&M’s taste the best?  Yep.. they do.  Pink, light blue, light green and light yellow M&M’s taste better than the regular colors.   At least… that’s my opinion.   At one time, I worked, as a designer, for a craft company.  Marie Cole, a fellow artist kept a bowl of candy on her desk for those who dropped by to visit.  To say the least, she was the most popular designer.  It could also be the fact that she was the friendliest.   Folks would stroll past her design table frequently… just to chat?   And of course… I was no exception.  Everyone’s  favorite fair was Almond M&M’s.  They disappeared the quickest.

At Easter time , I strolled past her desk frequently to snitch a pink (my favorite) M&M.  I must have been pretty obvious… because she finally left a bag of Easter Almond M&M’s on my design table… and continued that favor for a number of years.

Yes, indeed…. Easter Almond M&M’s taste the best.  It’s must be the spring colors they use…. it’s like a breath of fresh air after a long winter of Red, Yellow, Blue, Green and Brown.

I was in the store today and discovered Almond Kisses wrapped in spring colored foils.   “They surely must taste better than the regular gold covered kisses,” I said to myself.   ” After all, the colors blend well with the Easter M&M’s.”  So, into the cart they went… along with the M&M’s, three bags of plastic eggs, and a new spring blouse.

When I got to the check stand… I discovered that someone had stolen two of my bags of plastic eggs out of my cart.  They were the two bags of special colors I had dug down deep into the deep  pile to acquire. They were the only two bags left of those unique colors.   Can you believe it?  Oh well… at least they didn’t  snag my Easter Almond M&M’s and my bag of Easter Almond Kisses.

I’m getting ready for our Easter egg hunt… which will be a week after Easter.  My kids and Grands  are going to the Other-Laws for Easter… so we’ll hold our little celebration a bit later.

Grab yourself some Easter Almond M&M’s and see if your don’t agree that they taste better than the regular colors.

P.S.  I also picked up a chocolate rabbit…. I’m going to sneak out and play Easter Bunny for myself.  This hare is a reminder of my youth when it was the only bit of candy  the Easter Bunny left.  Perhaps he didn’t know about Easter almond M&M’s nor Easter Almond Kisses.

Lemon Easter Cake

Easter cakes can very from bunny cakes, chick cakes or plain dripper pan cakes.  This cake is not fancy but it really hits the mark with my family.  This  sweet, cold, and a refreshing Easter cake  is always a hit with my family members.  Not only is it  great tasting… but it’s really simple to make.  And, this cake that’s good anytime… especially  if your in a hurry to get to a summer party and need something special to take.    If you have helpers in your kitchen at Easter time… it’s easy for the kids to participate in the making.    Here we go.

These are the ingredients.  1 Lemon Cake Mix.  Veg. Oil.  Eggs.  Water.  These ingredients are for the cake mix.  Follow the directions on your particular cake mix because the amounts may vary a bit.  You will need one can of Sweetened Condensed Milk…. and Whipped topping.   An eight Oz. size will cover a 9×13 dripper pan.  However, I like lots of cream so I use the 12 Oz. size.   Who’s counting calories?  Jelly beans add the final touch.

Mix the cake according to the directions on the box.

Pour the cake into a greased and floured 9X13 dripper pan.   Bake at 350 degrees for about 25 Min.

Cool the cake for about 10 min.  Punch holes into the cake.  I use the end of my beater because it makes holes larger than a toothpick or fork.  Punch holes from 1 inch to 1/2 inch over the entire cake.  Poke the beater clear to the bottom of the cake.

The cake must be still warm.  Pour the Sweetened Condensed Milk on top of the cake.

Spread the milk so it will sink into the holes of the cake.  Place the cake into the fridge to cool.

Spread the topping on the cake

Decorate with jelly beans.  You can add coconut first… then add the jelly beans.  Some of my family do not care for coconut … so I don’t put it on… unless that part of the crew  is not coming for dinner.

Place the cake back into the fridge until it’s time to delight your guests and serve it up.

Here’s a quick video of me making this Easter Cake. I like action!

Have a happy Easter.  Enjoy this cool refreshing Easter cake.

P.S.  You might consider keeping extra Jelly Beans on hand.  My grands like to florish their peice of Easter cake with a few extra Jelly Beans.

Coloring Sheets To Print For Easter

Here are coloring sheets for you to print so your kids can decorate for Easter. The icons on these Easter printables are large. They are great for pre-school kids. Again… I have included pre-colored sheets… for the kids who just want to cut them out.

The kids can make their own Easter egg gathering basket by cutting out their artwork and gluing it onto the side of a paper bag. Punch a couple of holes in the top of the bag.. and string a bit of ribbon for a handle. Waaaaaa Laaaaa. Ready to go.

Here are the three Easter designs to choose from.

Honey Bunny – Black and White Honey Bunny – Precolored.

Cheeky Chick – Black and White Cheeky Chick – Precolored

Loose Duck – Black and White Loose Duck – Precolored

Print these off for you kids or grands. They’ll have a good time getting ready for Easter
