10 “Good” Reasons For Snow In April - “Only The Good” Friday

April 17, 2009

Are there 10 “Good” reasons for snow in April?  Yes, of course. If I didn’t look at the “Good” side of it…I might  sit down and cry.  So on this “Only The Good” Friday” I’m going to share with you my reasons for being grateful for snow at this late spring date.

I woke up to eleven inches of snow this morning.  It looked like a “White Christmas Scene”  on a card.

The  Ten Good Reason Why I’m Grateful For Snow In April.

1.  We can always use the water.  The mountains are getting bombarded.

2.  It has extended the ski season and that is good for the Utah economy.

3.  It has pruned some of the trees… naturally.

4.  It’s a gentle reminder that Christmas is only 8 months away.

5.  I have an excuse not to leave my house because I’m snowed in.

6.  I have kindling and fire wood for my wood burning fireplace from all the fallen limbs.

7.  The grands have one more chance to play in the snow.

8.  When my yard is covered with snow… my yard looks as good as all my neighbor’s including Linda, who is the Queen of Gardening.

9.  I have another few days before I have to finish cleaning up my yard to get ready for the “real” Spring and Summer planting. (Those cans are full of pine needles, old grass and twigs.)

10. It’s another sure sign that “Global Warming” needs to be reassessed.

There ya go… Snow in April… Yeah!

P.S.  I have another reason to be cheerful on this “Good Friday because, I know the snow won’t last long. It is suppose to be up to 73 degrees by Monday.

Melted Snowman Demeanor

January 5, 2009

Christmas day, my kids and grands came over to feast and open gifts.  Just after dark, my son Brad, led the charge to build a snowman.  A few of the kids ventured outside to help with the project.  A tall snowman appeared rather quickly.

After the kids brought “Frosty” to life by creating his face with jar rings for eyes, a block of wood for a nose, a slice of black rubber for his mouth, and a rake in his hand…they danced around him singing, “Frosty The Snowman.”  They had a jolly good time.

That was two weeks ago, and in the meantime, we’ve had a few warm days and Frosty is loosing his luster.  His eyes, nose and mouth have fallen to the ground.  His sprinkler hat has disappeared, and seeds from the tree above have darkened his white coat.  In other words, his cheery demeanor has melted.

When I looked out at him this morning… It came to me that, I might as well be looking in the mirror.  I too, have lost my cheery demeanor…(was I cheery?)  There are bags under my eyes… my hair roots are sprouting a white crown… I want to sleep in… and I have no “get up and go.”  Besides… it’s snowing again and you know what that means.  Oh my aching back!

As much as I’m relieved that the holidays are over… I’m feeling a little squished in between the hustle and bustle of the holidays and winter relief in seeing the first crocus peek her head out from the cold ground.  I think it’s called, “Winter Blues.”

Oh Well!  Can’t let my Melted Snowman Demeanor get the best of me.  Time to buck up and get with the program.  There is deep cleaning to do, blog categories to update, and hair to dye!  I’m sure I’ll feel better tomorrow…  that is… if the sun comes out.

Yawn!

Till Later

P.S.  What do you do to lift your “Winter Blues” and change your “Melted Snowman Demeanor”?
